Adding a "Do Not Serve" Customization to the Diet Intervention
The instructions below assume a diet intervention exists in your account to add a "do not serve" customization to (if not, see Creating a Diet Intervention: First Steps). To add a "do not serve" customization to a diet intervention:
- Select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears.
- Select the Interventions tab. The Interventions screen appears, listing existing interventions.

- Scroll down to the Customizations List section and click the Add New button and select Do Not Serve. The Do Not Serve pop-up appears (second screenshot below).
- Your next steps are to configure the type of "do not serve" customization. There is the ability to mark the following as do not serve:
- A meal period (breakfast, lunch, dinner) or snack time (snack am, snack pm, snack hs) can be marked as do not serve. See Adding a Meal Period or Snack Time as a "Do Not Serve" for a Diet Intervention

Adding a Meal Period or Snack Time as a "Do Not Serve" for a Diet Intervention
A meal period (breakfast, lunch, dinner) or snack time (snack am, snack pm, snack hs) can be added as a "do not serve" on a person’s personal menu. To do so, complete the following steps:
- Upon selecting Do Not Serve in step 4 above, the Do Not Serve pop-up appears.
- In the Meals field (top field), select the meal period or snack times you want to mark as do not serve.
- In the Menu Categories field (second field), select all the menu categories.
- Click the Save button to apply your changes and close the pop-up.
Note: If the do not serve customization conflicts with an existing personal menu item or fallback substitute in the diet intervention, then the system prevents the do not serve customization from being created, and a message appears indicating such (e.g., below).
Adding a Menu Category (or Categories) of a Meal Period as a "Do Not Serve" for a Diet Intervention
A menu category (or multiple categories) of a meal period or snack time can be added as "do not serve" for a person’s personal menu, meaning all items in that menu category will be marked as "do not serve" for the person. For example, do not serve juice (menu category) at breakfast (meal period).
-
Upon selecting Do Not Serve in step 4 above, the Do Not Serve pop-up appears.
- Ensure the Menu Categories option is selected.
- In the Meals field (top field), select the meal period or snack times of the menu category to be marked as do not serve.
- In the Menu Categories field (second field), select the menu category or categories to mark as do not serve. Note the categories available depend on the meal periods and snack times selected in the Meals field, meaning the category is only available if it assigned to a meal period/snack time selected in the Meals field. Therefore, if multiple meal period/snack times are selected, the menu category must be assigned to each meal period/snack time to be available in the Menu Categories field.
- Click the Save button to apply your changes and close the pop-up.
Note: If the do not serve customization conflicts with an existing personal menu item or fallback substitute in the diet intervention, then the system prevents the do not serve customization from being created, and a message appears indicating such (e.g., below).
Adding a Preference Group (or Groups) as a "Do Not Serve" for a Diet Intervention
A preference group (or multiple groups) can be added as a "do not serve" for a resident's personal menu, meaning all items in the preference group will be marked as do not serve for the person.
- Upon selecting Do Not Serve in step 4 above, the Do Not Serve pop-up appears.
- Select the Dislikes Groups option (aka preference group). The pop-up refreshes accordingly.
- From the field, select the desired preference group or groups to mark as do not serve. For example, the preference group milk.
- Click the Save button to apply your changes and close the pop-up.
Note: If the do not serve customization conflicts with an existing personal menu item or fallback substitute in the diet intervention, then the system prevents the do not serve customization from being created, and a message appears indicating such (e.g., below).
