About Unassigned Items
When configuring storage areas, it is possible to configure a scenario in which a storage type is not assigned to a storage area. In such a scenario, any food or non-food item that itself is assigned the same storage type will be considered "unassigned" from a storage area.
Assigning Unassigned Items to Storage Area
When unassigned items exist in the system and you open the Inventory On Hand screen (Inventory > Manage Storage Areas), a notification appears stating that there are unassigned items because the storage type of these items is not assigned to a storage area (screenshot below).
You have the following options:
- In the Storage area drop-down, select the storage area to assign the storage type, and then click the Assign Storage Type button. The system will then automatically assign the items with the storage type to the storage area.
- To directly assign storage types to storage areas, click the Go To Storage Areas button, and the Facility Builder screen > Storage Areas tab appears for you to select the appropriate storage area and assign it with the storage type.
- Click Remind Me Later to dismiss the notification. When you revisit the screen, the notification will pop up again.
Identifying Unassigned Items
If you choose not to assign unassigned items via the method above, then unassigned items remain in the system. These can be identified via the All Areas tab of the Inventory On Hand screen (Inventory > Manage Storage Areas). Such items are listed first with the Unassign label in the Storage Area column.
