Creating a Storage Area and its Internal Storage Locations
To create a storage area and its internal locations in your account, complete the following steps:
- From the left navigation sidebar, select Inventory > Inventory On Hand. The Inventory On Hand screen appears.
- Click the Create Storage Area tab (first screenshot below). The Add Storage Area modal appears (second screenshot below.
- In the Area Name field, enter the name of the storage area (e.g., Dry Storage), and click Create. The screen for the newly-created storage area appears.
- Click the Add Storage Location button (first screenshot below). The Add Storage Location modal appears (second screenshot below).
- In the Location Name field, enter a name for the internal storage location (e.g., Shelf 1), and click Create. The newly-created location displays as a section on the storage area screen.
What is the General Storage Location?
When a storage area is created, by default it contains a "General" storage location. This General storage location is required by the system to function as a means to accommodate items that are not assigned to a storage location.
The General storage location cannot be renamed or removed.
Sorting the Storage Area Tabs on the Inventory On Hand Screen
You can sort the storage area tabs on the Inventory On Hand screen by dragging and dropping the tabs to the desired order.
Editing the Name of a Storage Area
To edit the name of an existing storage area, complete the following steps:
- From the left navigation sidebar, select Inventory > Inventory On Hand. The Inventory On Hand screen appears, listing existing storage areas.
- For the storage area to be renamed, click its cog wheel (first screenshot below). The storage area screen appears (second screenshot below).
- In the header at the top of the screen, click the Edit icon beside the storage area name (first screenshot below). The Edit Storage Area modal appears (second screenshot below).
- Enter the new name for the storage area and click the Save button. The new storage area name is saved.
Deleting a Storage Area
You can delete an existing storage area. When doing so, all its internal storage locations will be deleted, and all the items stored in the locations will be unassigned from the storage area and moved to the Unassigned tab on the Inventory On Hand Screen. To remove an existing storage area, complete the following steps:
- From the left navigation pane, select Inventory > Inventory On Hand. The Inventory On Hand screen appears, listing existing storage areas.
- For the storage area to be deleted, click its cog wheel (first screenshot below). The storage area screen appears (second screenshot below).
- At the top right corner, click the Delete Storage Area button. A confirmation action message appears.
- In the available field, enter the name of the storage area, and click the Yes, Delete Please button.
- The storage area is deleted. If the storage area contained items, then those items are moved to an Unassigned tab on the Inventory On Hand screen.
