FAQs and Troubleshooting: Barcode Scanning
The barcode scanning is not working; nothing happens?
For an external barcode scanner, confirm the scanner plugs are connected. Ensure the USB cable is connected to the display screen. Do not connect the USB cable to the printer.
Our product isn’t scanning; it says product not found?
In Touch Admin, select POS Settings > Products. Locate the product, click its Edit button, and confirm the barcode number in the Barcode field is entered and is accurate.
Our product is scanning at the wrong price or shows no price?
In Touch Admin, select POS Settings > Price Book. Locate the product and confirm the price is accurate. For more information, see Editing Price of an Existing Menu Item, Product or Service.
Can a scanner be plugged into a printer rather than the display screen?
No. The scanner cannot be plugged into the printer.
Can I use a scanner not purchased from MealSuite?
You can test if a scanner is compatible by connecting it to the display screen (not the printer) and scanning a product or an identification badge with a linear barcode. If text/numbers appear onscreen, then the scanner is compatible.
Note that If testing the scanner on a self-service kiosk (SSK), then prior to doing so please contact MealSuite Support and have them access the configuration for the SSK and select the barcode_and_select_on_screen value for the How should items be added to the cart? field.
