About Services
A service is an offering in the POS, such as hair, spa, exercise appointments, etc.
A service can be added to the POS via Touch Admin (explained below). A service can also be added to the POS by a POS operator with access to POS Manager module; see Configuring Services in the POS (via the POS Manager Module).
Prerequisite: Create Service (i.e., Non-Food) Categories
When adding a service, it will need to be assigned to an appropriate service category. Therefore ensure the service categories are first created before adding services; see Creating Service Categories (i.e., Non-Food Categories) in the POS.
Adding a Service to the POS via Touch Admin
Complete the following steps to add a service to the POS via Touch Admin:
- In Touch Admin, select POS Settings > Products. The POS Products screen appears.
- Click the Add a Product button. The Add Product screen appears.
- Enter or select the following:
- Name - enter the name of the service (e.g., Haircut - Women).
- Product Type - select Service.
- Billing Code Override - if the service is to override the billing code for its assigned category, enter that billing code here. A billing code is used on a financial export interface (i.e., Bill to Room Export Interface) to indicate what billing code a POS service is associated with. Note that billing codes are set up by your MealSuite (CSM) customer success manager (if you are a MealSuite CSM, click here for the internal article on setting up billing codes).
- Tax Override - if the service is to override the sales tax(es) for its category, select those sales tax(es) here. Note: Prior to assigning sales tax(es) to a service, those sales tax(es) must first be set up in POS via POS Settings > Taxes (see Configuring Sales Taxes in the POS for more information).
- GL Account Override - if the service is to override the GL account for its category, enter that GL account here. Note that GL accounts are first set up by your MealSuite CSM (customer success manager) to be available for assigning to a service (if you are a MealSuite CSM, click here for the internal article on setting up GL accounts).
- Category - select the appropriate non-menu category for the service. If needed, you can also add the service to a menu category.
- In the Services Settings section, select the length of time to block on the appointment calendar when the service is selected.
- Click the Create Product button. You are returned to the main screen, where the newly-added service is listed.
Tutorial Video
From the 00:00 to the 0:38 mark, the tutorial video below explains how to enter a service via Touch Admin.
Entering a Price for a Service
Each service must be set up with a price. To do so, refer to the following articles:
- Creating a Price Book
- Editing the Price of an Existing Menu Item, Product or Service
- Assigning Price Book to a POS Location
From the 0:19 to the 0:32 mark, the video explains how to add prices for services.
How Does a Service get onto the Products and Services Grid?
A products and services grid is built to display the non-menu categories as category grid tiles. On the POS front-end, the operator will tap the category tile to display and select the service being ordered by the customer. For example, if a beard trim service is assigned to the Men's Hair Services category, then the beard trim service will be available for selection via the Men's Hair Services category on the products and services grid.
- To build a products and services category, see Building a POS Products and Services Grid.
- To create a service category tile on an existing POS products and services grid, see Creating a Category Tile on a Products and Services Grid.
Can a Service be Offered as a Stand-Alone Service outside of its Category on the Products and Service Grid?
No. A service cannot be entered as a stand-alone service (i.e., outside of its category) on the products and service grid.
