Activating Elo® M50 Device for First Time
The Elo® M50 device (image below; courtesy of Elo) is used to run MealSuite Touch and POS applications and features a 2D barcode scanner for in-room meal delivery tracking.
Your M50 device is registered by your MealSuite CSM (customer success manager) prior to shipping. When you activate your M50 device for the first time, the device prompts you to join your local Wi-Fi network.
Accessing Settings of Elo M50 Device
To access settings of an M50 device, complete the following steps:
- Ensure the M50 device is powered on.
- Hold the Power button and the Left Up buttons at the same time.
- Tap the unlock icon.
- Enter the password: EloView1.
- Tap the green checkmark on the keyboard.
- Tap the settings icon (aka hamburger icon) at the top right of the screen, which opens the Quick Settings screen.
- Tap Admin.
- Enter the password: EloView1.
- Tap the green checkmark on the keyboard.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Android Settings.
- From here you can access and change various settings, such as your Wi-Fi network or apps and notifications.
Changing Wi-Fi Network; Reconnecting to Wi-Fi Network
If an M50 device becomes disconnected from the saved Wi-Fi network or cannot connect to Wi-Fi, follow the steps below to access Wi-Fi settings and change your Wi-Fi network or reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.
- Access the M50 settings (as per above steps).
- Tap Network & Internet.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Enter the password for the network and tap Connect.
- At the top left of the screen, tap the return arrow until you are returned to the Quick Settings screen, and then tap X to exit the screen.
Adjusting Screen Timeout Setting of Elo M50 Device
The Elo M50 device has a default screen timeout setting of one minute. This timeout setting can be changed via the M50 settings.
- Access the M50 settings (as per above steps).
- Tap Display.
- Ensure the Auto idlemode setting is disabled.
- Tap Advanced > Screen timeout.
- Tap the timeout option you want
- At the top left of the screen, tap the return arrow until you are returned to the Quick Settings screen.
- Tap X at the top right of screen.
- Hold down Power button until the right side menu appears.
- Tap Restart.
Adjusting Wi-Fi Frequency on M50 Device:
To adjust the Wi-Fi frequency on an M50 device, complete the following steps:
- Access the M50 settings (as per above steps).
- Tap Network & Internet.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Tap Wi-Fi preferences.
- Tap Advanced.
- Tap Additional Settings.
- Tap Frequency Band.
- Select 5 GHz.
- At the top left of the screen, tap the return arrow until you are returned to the Quick Settings screen, and then tap X to exit the screen.
Adjusting Wi-Fi MAC Address
To adjust the Wi-Fi MAC Address of on an M50 device, complete the following steps:
- Access the M50 settings (as per above steps).
- Tap Network & Internet.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Tap the gear icon associated with the wireless connection to be configured.
- Tap Advanced.
- Tap Privacy and select Use device MAC.
- At the top left of the screen, tap the return arrow until you are returned to the Quick Settings screen, and then tap X to exit the screen.
Retrieving Serial Number on Elo M50 Device
The serial number for an M50 handheld mobile computer may be requested by MealSuite Support for toubleshooting purposes. To retrieve the serial number:
- Locate and unlock the battery latch from the back of the M50.
- Remove the battery. The serial number is printed on the casing.
Resetting/Recovering an Elo M50 Device
Performing a Reset
If instructed by MealSuite support to perform a reset, then do so by completing the following steps:
- From the top of the screen swipe down.
- Tap the setting icons at bottom right.
- Tap System.
- Tap Advanced.
- Tap Reset Options.
- Tap Erase all data (factory reset).
- Tap Erase all data.
- Reconnect to the wi-fi as per steps below.
Hard Reset (i.e., Recovering if Device Crashed)
If an M50 device crashes, then you may be instructed by MealSuite support to perform a hard reset to recover the device. To do so, complete the following steps:
- Power off the device.
- Press the Power key until the Elo splash screen appears, and then hold the Left Up key until the unit displays the Android System Recovery screen.
- Press the Left Up key to select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" and press the Power key to select.
- Press the Left Up key to select "Factory Data Reset" and press the Power key to select.
- A data wipe of the device is performed.
- When prompted to “Reboot System Now”, press the Power button to select.
- Reconnect to the wi-fi as per steps below.
Reconnecting to Wi-Fi
- When the device restarts, select Enroll with EloView.
- Select the network, and enter the network password.
- The device checks for updates, goes through the setup process, and restarts.
Note: “This device has not been setup” message will appear momentarily while the Touch or POS App is being detected. - The Touch login or POS login, or new device detected screen will then appear.
Docking Stations
Note: Elo docking stations are available for an M50 device that turn the device into a workstation. A docking station is hardwired (Ethernet) to the MealSuite system, and as such MealSuite can access the device settings on your behalf.
FAQs: Elo M50 Device
Can my M50 device be tracked, similar to the Find my iPhone feature?
Yes. It would require a SIM card to be installed and to incur the associated costs via a cellular service.
My M50 device disconnected from my Wi-Fi? How do I reconnect?
