Overview
When a recipe is added to a menu, and that menu supports extended recipes (i.e., an extended menu), the recipe's extensions will copy over.
After a recipe is added to a menu, it is now a menu item, and as such you can alter the extensions that are specific to the menu item (see Working in a Menu Item Extension Grid). This means that the extensions on the menu item will be different from its associated recipe, and that the menu item extensions take precedence over the recipe extensions.
When the extensions differ between a menu item and its associated recipe in an account, there is the ability to synch the extensions, as documented below.
Synching the extensions from a recipe to its associated menu item
When a recipe is added to a menu, and the extensions subsequently change between the recipe and the menu item, you can synch the extensions from the recipe to the menu item via one of the following synch methods:
- Method 1: From the menu item extension grid, click the Reset to Recipe Extension button.
- Method 2: Remove the item from the menu and re-add it
- Method 3: When making changes to the recipe extension grid, click the Update Existing Menus button
Method 1: From the menu item extension grid, click the Reset to Recipe Extension button
To synch the extensions from a recipe in your account to its associated menu item, open the extension grid for the menu item and click the Reset to Recipe Extension (see Resetting Menu Item Extensions to Recipe Extensions).
Method 2: Remove the item from the menu and re-add it
You can remove the item from the menu and re-add it, which will synch the extensions from the recipe in your account to the menu item.
Method 3: When making changes to the recipe extensions, click the Update Existing Menus button
When making changes to the extension grid for a recipe, the Update Existing Menus button becomes available to synch the recipe extension changes to the associated menu item.
Synching extensions from a recipe to its associated menu item when the recipe is also a master recipe
Scenario 1: You have not made extension changes to the master recipe in your account
If you have not made changes to the extensions on a master recipe, and the parent account subsequently does make changes to the extensions on the master recipe, then those changes will automatically take effect on the recipe in your account; however the changes do not take effect on the associated menu item.
You can synch the extensions from the recipe in your account to its associated menu item via one of the following synch methods:
- Method 1: From the menu item extension grid, click the Reset to Recipe Extension button.
- Method 2: Remove the item from the menu and re-add it
- Method 3: When making changes to the recipe extension grid, click the Update Existing Menus button
Scenario 2: You have made extension changes to the master recipe in your account
If you have made changes to the extensions on a master recipe, then the extension grid becomes specific to your account only and is "locked" from any future changes by the parent account of the recipe.* As such, synching the extensions from the recipe in your account to its associated menu item is a two-part process:
- As the child account, first synch the extensions from the master recipe to the recipe in your account by opening the extension grid of the recipe in your account and clicking the Revert to Master button.
- You can then synch the extensions from the recipe in your account to its associated menu item via one of the following synch methods:
Note: If your account has been set up with custom diet types and/or texture types (see Requesting a New Diet, Texture or Fluid Type), then those diet types/texture types are only available at your account (i.e., a parent account does not see them). Therefore, if your account only makes changes with those custom diet and/or texture types on the extension grid, then the system does not consider that your account owns the extension grid. As such, when your account does not own the extension grid, then changes by the parent account to the extension grid automatically flow down to child accounts.
Synching the extensions from a menu item to its associated recipe
You can synch the extensions on a menu item to its associated recipe in your account. To do so, open the menu item extension grid, and click the Save and Update Recipe button.
When extensions are updated for multiple recipes by a parent account, what is the method a child account can use to update the menu the recipes belong to?
A child account can make a copy of a menu from a menu template that the recipes belong to.
