Certain settings can be set by default when the Touch app user is taking an order for a resident/patient on the Instant Ordering screen. These default settings are set in the Touch Admin software. To do so, complete the following steps:
- In Touch Admin, select Report Presets. The Report Presets screen appears.
- Scroll to the IO section.
- Select or deselect the default settings as needed:
- Suppress Disliked Foods - items marked as dislikes on a person's personal menu are not included.
-
Include Also Available Menu - items offered on an active Also Available menu are included.
- Click the Update Report Preset button to apply your changes.

- Select Tools & Setup > Facility Builder. The Facility Builder screen appears.
- Select the Dining Areas tab. The existing dining areas are listed.
- Hold the = icon of a dining area to be sorted, and drag and drop it to the appropriate spot in the dining area order.
- Repeat the above steps until you have your desired order.
FAQs
I do not see my resident on the Instant Ordering screen?
For a resident to appear on the Instant Ordering screen in the Touch app, their service type in the MealSuite core system must be set to Table Select. To change the service type of a resident, see Selecting Service Types (Table Select, Advanced Ordering, Non-Select) for Persons.
How do I edit an instant order after it is placed?
For an instant order that has already been placed, you can create a new order for the resident. And then you must verbally inform the kitchen staff to skip the first order.
How do I delete/remove an instant order after it already has been placed?
You must verbally inform the kitchen staff to skip the order.
Can portion sizes of items be adjusted when using instant ordering?
Yes. You can adjust portion sizes for an item by using the plus and minus icons for an item, as per screenshot below.
Can I assign diners (people) to tables when using instant ordering?
Yes. When in instant ordering, you can assign a person to a table via the Table field (screenshot below).
By default, the field contains the table that is assigned to the resident in the core system. Selecting a different table in instant ordering will not change the table assignment in the core system. The next time the resident is selected in instant ordering, their table assignment from the core system is shown.
Are there start times for meal periods when placing an instant order?
No. An instant order can be placed anytime for a meal period (breakfast, lunch, dinner). There are no time restrictions, such as start times, for when an instant order can be placed.
Is meal course functionality supported in the Touch app for the Instant Ordering service?
No. Meal courses are not supported in the Touch app, meaning items ordered via the instant ordering service cannot be assigned to courses.
How are recipe photos added to instant ordering in the Touch app?
Recipe photos are not added in the Touch app. Instead, recipe photos flow in from the recipes in the Core system for currently active menus. See Uploading or Replacing a Recipe Photo for more information.
If recipe photos are not syncing between the Core system and the Touch app, reach out to MealSuite Support. If you are MealSuite Support, refer to the following internal article: Synching Recipes Between Core System and Touch App (INTERNAL).
