What are Choices?
Assigning choices to a menu item allows you to build a “full choice” meal of items that complement each other. Items of choice 1 would be considered the main full choice meal, whereas items of choice 2 would be considered the alternate full choice meal.
In addition, a menu can be set up with an additional three choices (choices 3 to 5) to allow a facility to have multiple full choice alternate meals (see Editing Menu Properties to adjust the amount of choices).
When viewing a menu by choices rather than menu category (via via the display options), you can see how the full choice meals are displayed.
To allow for increased flexibility, a menu item can be assigned to more than one choice.
Choices are also a factor when a resident or patient is set up with non-select as their service type, as the objective of the system is to serve a full choice meal to that person, taking into consideration the person’s diet type, any diet restrictions set against their diet type, their allergens, their personal menu customizations, and other system calculations. To understand how the system chooses the items to be served for a non-select service type, see Item Selection Logic for Non-Select Service Type.
Changing the Choice of a Menu Item
To change the choice of a menu item, complete the following steps:
- Open the menu to the menu day view.
- Ensure the items are organized by menu categories. This is done by opening the Display Options, selecting Menu Category, and clicking Save.
- For the item whose choice you want to change, click into the Choice field and click the desired choice to add a check mark. To remove an item from a choice, click the currently-selected choice to remove its check mark.
Note: An item can belong to more than once choice. To do so, simply keep the check mark on each choice you want the item to belong to.
