About POS Item Modifiers
The system allows modifiers to be added to POS items via the following methods:
POS Modifier Prompts (i.e., Forced Modifiers)
A modifier prompt is a pop-up (screenshot below) containing extras or add-ons that can be added to a menu item or product when that menu item or product is added to an order by a POS user or a Portal app user.
A modifier prompt is called such because it automatically appears onscreen when a menu item or product is added to an order, forcing the POS user/Portal user to make a selection (i.e., it "prompts" the user).
Modifiers prompts are configured by a POS operator using the POS Manager module. For more information and instructions, see Creating Modifier Prompts (aka Forced Modifiers).
POS Modifiers Grid (i.e., Static Modifiers)
The POS modifiers grid contains extras or add-on products that a POS operator can navigate through for an ordered menu item, such as “well done”, “add pickle”, “no onion”, “dressing on the side”, etc.
When an ordered item is tapped on the right side, then the modifier grid appears on the left for the POS operator to add any modifiers to the food item.
When a modifier is added to an item by the POS operator, that modifier will appear below its item on a ticket (both onscreen and printed) sent to the KMS.
The default modifiers grid can be customized as needed, or used as a template to create a new modifiers grid. For more information and instructions, see Activating and Configuring the POS Modifiers Grid (i.e., Static Modifiers)
How is a Modifier Prompt Different from the Modifiers Grid?
- A modifier prompt is customizable to a specific item, and appears automatically as soon as the POS user/Portal user taps the item. Modifier(s) must be selected by a POS user/Portal user before the item is added to the order. A modifier prompt is configured by a POS user who has access to the POS Manager module.
- The modifiers grid is a general grid containing many modifiers, and only appears if the POS user remembers to tap an item after that item has been added to the order. The modifiers grid is configured in the Touch Admin software (see Activating and Configuring the POS Modifiers Grid or more information).
