About the Initial Setup of your Residence
The Residence Builder screen allows you to add the following units to match your facility’s property layout: campus, buildings, residence areas, rooms and beds. If you have yet to build out your residence for your account, then complete the following steps:
- In your Core account, select Settings from the left navigation sidebar. The Settings panel appears to the right.
- From the Settings panel, select People Settings > Residence Builder. The Residence Builder screen appears.
- If your facility utilizes campuses, then enable the Campus slider. If your facility does not utilize campuses, then keep the Campus slider disabled.
- If your facility does not utilize a building in its hierarchal structure, then disable the Building slider. Typically this option is enabled if you have more than one building.
- Click the Setup button. The Residence Builder screen refreshes (screenshot below) with the following options:
- Create Manually - allows you build your residence unit by unit. See Building your Residence Unit by Unit below.
-
Bulk Create via Import - allows you build your residence all at once by importing an Excel® file. See Using Excel® Template to Build your Residence Areas below.

- If meals are to be delivered to the room, then you will need to enable the residence area for room delivery by selecting the Enable Room Delivery check box and completing the available fields that appear. However, at this point because you are just building out your residence for the first time, you can choose to revisit room delivery configuration later when you are ready. When ready, see the following article: Enabling Room Delivery for a Residence Area.
- If there is more than one area, then click the Add New Area link, which adds a new Area Name field for you to enter the area name. Repeat this step for all areas that need to be added.
- Click Save. Proceed to step 4 below.
- The Residence Builder screen appears with the top-level units you added in the above steps (campus, building, or area). In the example screenshot below, buildings have been added.
- Depending on the units you have enabled on the Residence Builder screen, refer to the appropriate set of instructions to continue building out your residence:
Using Excel® Template to Build your Residence Areas
The Bulk Create via Import option allows you build your residence all at once by importing an Excel® file. When using this option, the system provides an Excel® template that you will download and populate with your facility unit information (residence areas, rooms, beds) and then upload into the system. To do so, complete the following steps:
-
From step 5 above, click the Bulk Create via Import option. The Import Residence modal appears.
- Click the Download Template link. The template file is downloaded to your computer.
- Open the file and populate the details in the appropriate columns. Each column corresponds with a hierarchal unit level enabled on the Residence Builder screen. For example, if Campuses are not enabled, then the Excel file will not include its corresponding column. Complete each row with full information, as per screenshot below.
- After all the relevant information is entered, save the file.
-
Return to the Residence Builder screen.
- If the Import Residence modal is still open (seen in step 1 above), then click the Click to upload file link to upload your file, or drag-and-drop the file to the drop area.
- If the Import Residence modal is no longer open, then click the Setup button to refresh the Residence Builder screen with the Bulk Create via Import option, and then click that option to display the Import Residence modal (seen in step 1 above). Click the Click to upload file link to upload your file, or drag-and-drop the file to the drop area.
