Changing the Display Name (i.e., User-Facing Name) of a Recipe
The display name of a recipe is its user-facing name that appears in menus and reports, and the front-end ordering apps (Touch app, POS, Portal app). The display name is specific to your account and therefore can be changed by any account in the system, including the display name of master recipes (i.e., recipes not owned by your account).
To change the display name of a recipe:
- Open the recipe (either from the menu or from the Recipe Listing screen).
- In the Display Name field, enter the name. The display name does not have to be unique (i.e., other recipes can have the same display name). The character limit is 30.
- At the top right of the slide-out panel, click Save to apply your changes.
About Changing Display Name of a Master Recipe
When you change the display name of a master recipe, the revert icon is displayed (screenshot below), which indicates that the display name for your account is different from the display name of the master recipe
You can revert the display name to the master recipe display name by clicking the revert icon, and then clicking Save.
Changing the Lookup Name (i.e., System Name) of a Recipe Owned by your Account
The lookup name of a recipe is the system name of the recipe. The lookup name can be used to search for the recipe in the system, and can be viewed on the menu week-at-a-glance view, menu day view, and personal menu view.
The lookup name can only be changed for a recipe owned by your account. The lookup name cannot be changed for a master recipe (i.e., recipe not owned by your account). Note that as a child facility account using master recipes, if the lookup name of a master recipe is changed by its account owner, then that lookup name will be reflected for the recipe in your account.
To change the lookup name for a recipe owned by your account:
-
Open the recipe owned by your account.
- In the Name field, enter the unique name for the recipe. The name should follow the protocol of starting with a general category and include production information to allow for searching and listing recipes. For example, “Beef Burger Patty Ckd 2.8 oz” or “Cake Banana f/Plain Mix Unfrosted”. The character limit is 40.
- At the top right of the slide-out panel, click Save to apply your changes.
FAQs
I changed the display name of a master recipe in my account. If the account owner (i.e., parent account) changes the display name, will it override my display name?
No. The display name your account enters for a master recipe will not be overridden if the parent account owner subsequently changes the display name. Only if you click the revert icon for the display name will the name revert to the current display name for the master recipe.
Will changing the display name or lookup name be reflected for recipes that are menu items?
Yes. When a name (either display name or lookup name) is changed for a recipe, then the associated menu item will also use that name.
Can I use the recipe bulk edit function to change names?
The recipe bulk edit function cannot be used to change recipe names. However, a bulk edit of recipe display names can be carried out by MealSuite Support. Please reach out to MealSuite Support to request a bulk edit of recipe display names.
