About Unit of Measure (UoM) Preferences for Master Recipes in your Account

The preferred unit of measure (UoM) that your facility desires for the portion sizes of master recipes can be set per recipe category. For example, if you want all master recipe juices to be displayed in ml, then you can set the Juice recipe category to ml.

When setting the UoM for a recipe category, master recipes in that category that use a standard UoM (as opposed to a special unit of measure (SUoM) such as "Each" or "Slice" or "Scoop") are automatically switched to the new UoM*, and the system automatically converts the amount so as to maintain the same nutrition and cost and prevent you from having to manually calculate the conversion.

For example, if the portion size for Cranberry Juice is 4 fl oz, and you change the UoM for the Juice recipe category to ml, the portion size for the Cranberry Juice then becomes 120 ml. 

UoM Precedence Table

If a parent account sets their preferred UoM for master recipes in its account, those settings will cascade down to its child accounts. However, if a child account sets its preferred units of measure--either at the account itself (as per below steps) or on individual master recipes--then the child account settings take effect, and any subsequent changes by the parent account do not take effect at the child account.  

The table below explains the UoM precedence that takes effect when UoM settings exist at different levels. 

Setting UoM Preferences for the Recipe Categories

To set your UoM preferences for your recipe categories, complete the following steps:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Recipe Tools, and then click the Unit of Measure Preferences tab at the top of the screen.
   
   
    
2. For each recipe category, the following two drop-downs and their associated UoM options are available for you to select your desired option. 
   • Volume Unit Override
     • Use Default (uses the UoM of the individual master recipe)
     • Scoop #
     • Fluid ounces (fl oz)
     • Cups, Tablespoons & Teaspoons
     • Milliliters (ml) & Liters (L)
   • Weight Unit Override
     • Use Default (uses the UoM of the individual master recipe)
     • Ounces (oz) & Pounds (lb)
     • Grams (g) & Kilograms (kg)
        
3. Upon making your changes for each recipe category, click the Save Settings button at the bottom left of the screen. A confirmation message appears listing each recipe category and its new UoM. 
   
   
    
4. Type Confirm in the available field and click Yes, confirm my preferences. The affected recipes are updated in the system. 

Reverting an Individual Recipe Category to its Master UoM Setting

When you set a recipe category with a UoM in your account, you always have the ability to revert the recipe category back to the current UoM setting in your parent account. To do so, click the revert icon beside the recipe category. 

Reverting all Recipe Categories to their Master UoM Settings

You can revert all recipe categories back to current UoM settings in your parent account. To do so:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Recipe Tools, and then click the Unit of Measure Preferences tab at the top of the screen.
    
2. Click the Reset to Master Settings button at the bottom of the screen. 
   
   
    
3. Click the Save Settings button at the bottom left of the screen. A confirmation message appears listing all the categories that will be reverted to their master settings. 
   
   
    
4. Type Confirm in the available field and click Yes, confirm my preferences. The affected recipes are updated in the system.
