About the Diet Order Settings Screen

The Diet Order Settings screen (Tools & Setup > Diet Orders from the left navigation sidebar) allows you to manage the diet types, texture types and fluid types available to be assigned to resident/patient profiles and used in recipe extension grids, menu extension grids, menu reports and people reports.

The Diets and Textures Tab

The Diets and Texture tab (with Diet Category of Standard selected) displays the diet/texture combinations in a grid:

• The diet types are displayed as rows and the texture types are displayed as columns.
   
• A selected check box indicates the diet/texture combination is published, which means it is available to be assigned to a resident/patient's profile. If a resident is assigned the diet/texture combination, then they will be served the substitute recipe for that combination that was extended for it on a menu item extension grid.
   
• A clear check box (i.e., not selected) indicates the diet/texture combination is unpublished, which means it is not available to be assigned to a resident's profile. However, an unpublished diet/texture combination is still available in recipe extension grids and menu item extension grids; this allows you to build the extensions for a recipe prior to publishing diet/texture combinations for the resident profiles.
   

• The parent-child account hierarchy structure in the MealSuite system allows diet types and texture types owned by a parent account to assign maintenance responsibility of those diet types and texture types to their child accounts.

  What this means is that the parent account will no longer be responsible for extending to those diet types or texture types when extending a recipe with substitutions. Instead, the responsibility for extending recipes to those diet types and texture types will be with each child account. 

  When a child account has been assigned maintenance responsibility for a diet type or texture type, then the header of such diet types and texture types are highlighted blue on the Diet Order settings screen.
  
  

The Fluid Type Tab

The Fluid Type tab displays the IDDSI fluid types.

• A published fluid type means it is available to be assigned to a resident/patient profile.
• A fluid type, regardless if it is published or unpublished, is available for a recipe to apply a substitute to when extending the fluid recipe with thickened fluid substitutes. When that fluid recipe is added to a menu, then its substitute for the fluid type will be served to a resident/patient who is assigned that fluid type.

• When a fluid type is unpublished, by default it does not appear on the Fluid Type tab. An unpublished fluid type can be seen on the Fluid Tab tab via the screen display options (explained below).

Unpublishing

About Unpublishing

When an account unpublishes a diet type, texture type or fluid type, the following occurs:

• The unpublished diet, texture, or fluid type will not be available to be assigned to residents/patients.
• The unpublished diet type will still be available in recipe extension grids and menu item extension grids to allow you to extend the recipe with therapeutic substitute recipes. 

If a parent account unpublishes a diet, texture, or fluid type, then that type will be unpublished in its child accounts, but can be republished by the child account if need be. 

A diet type, texture type, or fluid type cannot be unpublished if it is currently assigned to a resident/patient. 

Unpublishing a Diet Type

Assuming the diet type is not assigned to a resident/patient, then the steps to unpublish the diet type are as follows:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears with the Diets and Textures tab automatically open.
2. Ensure the Diet Category field is is Standard.
3. Click the name of the diet type you want to unpublish. The diet type slide-out panel appears (second screenshot below). 
   
   
   
   
    
4. Click the Texture Publication tab. 
   
   
    
5. Clear all the check boxes for each texture type. Note: You can also use the Publish for all texture check box by clicking it the appropriate times to clear all the check boxes. 
   
   
   
   Note: If the diet type is currently assigned to a resident/patient in your account, then it cannot be unpublished. A message appears listing a diet type/texture type combination that is currently assigned, along with the number of people assigned that combination.* 
   
   
   
   If it is a parent account attempting to unpublish the diet type, and that diet type is assigned to resident/patients in one or more child accounts, then the diet type cannot be unpublished. A message appears listing a diet/type texture type combination that is currently assigned in child facilities, along with a list of child facilities and the number of people assigned the combination in each facility.*
   
   
    
6. Click Save to apply your changes and close the slide-out panel.

*The message only lists one diet type/texture type combination that is assigned, but does not list all the combinations that are assigned.

Unpublishing a Texture Type

Assuming the texture type is not assigned to a resident/patient, then the steps to unpublish the texture type are as follows:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears with the Diets and Textures tab automatically open.
2. Ensure the Diet Category field is is Standard.
3. Click the name of the texture type to unpublish. The Edit Texture slide-out panel appears (second screenshot below). 
   
   
   
   
    
4. Click the green Published button (first screenshot below). The system will deselect all diet types the texture type is published with. When complete, the button changes to blue Unpublished (second screenshot below) to indicate that the texture type is no longer published. 
   
   
   
   
   
   Note: If the texture type is currently assigned to a resident/patient in your account, then it cannot be unpublished. A message appears stating such, along with the number of people assigned the texture type. 
   
   
   
   If it is a parent account attempting to unpublish the texture type, and that texture type is assigned to resident/patients in one or more child accounts, then the texture type cannot be unpublished. A message appears stating that the texture type is currently assigned in child facilities, and lists the child facilities and the number of people assigned the texture type in each facility.
   
   
    
5. Close the Edit Texture slide-out panel. 

Unpublishing a Fluid Type

Assuming the fluid type is not assigned to a resident/patient, then the steps to unpublish the fluid type are as follows:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears. 
2. Click the Fluid Type tab.
3. Click the name of the fluid type you want to unpublish. The Edit Fluid slide-out panel appears (second screenshot below). 
   
   
    

4. Click the green Published button. The button changes to blue Unpublished to indicate that the fluid type is no longer published (second screenshot below). 
   
   
   
   

   Note: If the fluid type is currently assigned to a resident/patient in your account, then it cannot be unpublished. A message appears stating such, along with the number of people assigned the fluid type. 
   
   
   
   If it is a parent account attempting to unpublish the fluid type, and that fluid type is assigned to resident/patients in one or more child accounts, then the fluid type cannot be unpublished. A message appears stating that the fluid type is currently assigned in child facilities, and lists the child facilities and the number of people assigned the fluid type in each facility.
   
   
    

5. Close the Edit Fluid slide-out panel. 

Not Displaying/Displaying on the Diet Order Settings Screen the Unpublished Diet, Texture, and Fluid Types

To not display (i.e. hide) on the Diet Order Settings screen the unpublished diet, texture, and fluid types, complete the following steps:

1. Click the Display Options icon (screenshot below).
2. Deactivate the Show unpublished at your account switch by sliding it to the left. 
   
    
3. Click Apply to apply your changes to the screen. 

To display (i.e., show) on the Diet Order Settings screen the unpublished diet, texture, and fluid types, complete the following steps:

1. Click the Display Options icon (screenshot below).
2. Activate the Show unpublished at your account switch by sliding it to the right. 
   
    
3. Click Apply to apply your changes to the screen. 

Unpublishing a Diet Type/Texture Type Combination

About Unpublishing a Diet Type/Texture Type Combination

The system allows you to unpublish a specific diet type/texture type combination. What this means is that the diet type/texture type combination will not be available to be assigned on a resident/patient profile. For example, assume the following diet type/texture type combination is unpublished:

• Diet type: Fat Restricted
• Texture type: Easy to Chew

On a resident/patient profile, the combination will not be available for selection. Either the diet type or texture type can be selected, but its combination counterpart will be greyed out and not available for selection. 

If a parent account unpublishes a diet type/texture type combination, then that combination will be unpublished in its child accounts, but can be republished by a child account if need be. 

If a combination is unpublished then on a recipe extension grid or a menu item extension grid, the diet type/texture type combination cell is grey to indicate it is unpublished. However, the extension cell still remains available to extend a recipe to if the diet type/texture type is ever published.

A diet type/texture type combination cannot be unpublished if it currently assigned to a resident/patient.

How to Unpublish a Diet Type/Texture Type Combination

To unpublish a diet type/texture type combination: 

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears with the Diets and Textures tab automatically open.
2. Ensure the Diet Category field is is Standard.
   
   
    
3. To unpublish a diet type/texture type combination, clear (i.e., deselect) the check box of its cell. 
   
   
   
   Note: If the diet type/texture type combination is currently assigned to a resident/patient in your account, then it cannot be unpublished. A message appears stating such, along with the number of people assigned the combination. 
   
   
   
   If it is a parent account attempting to unpublish the diet type/texture type combination, and that combination is assigned to resident/patients in one or more child accounts, then the combination cannot be unpublished. A message appears stating that the combination is currently assigned in child facilities, and lists the child facilities and the number of people assigned the combination in each facility.
   
   

Publishing

Publishing a Diet Type

If a diet type has been unpublished from all texture types, then it can be republished. Republishing a diet type involves selecting one or more texture types the diet type is to be published with (i.e., diet type/texture type combinations). To do so, complete the following step

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears with the Diets and Textures tab automatically open.
2. Ensure the Diet Category field is is Standard.
3. Click the name of the diet type you want to publish. The diet type slide-out panel appears (second screenshot below). 
   
   
   
   
    
4. Click the Texture Publication tab. 
   
   
    
5. To publish a diet type, select one or more check boxes for each texture type. Note: You can also use the Publish for all texture check box by clicking it the appropriate times to select all the texture type check boxes. 
   
   
    
6. Click Save to apply your changes and close the slide-out panel.

Publishing a Texture Type and Selecting its Diet Types

If a texture type has been unpublished from all diet types, then it can be republished. Republishing a texture type is a two-step process: first you must publish the texture type to make it active, and then you must select the diet types the texture type is to be published with (i.e., diet type/texture type combinations). 

Complete the following step

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears with the Diets and Textures tab automatically open.
2. Ensure the Diet Category field is is Standard.
3. Click the name of the texture type to publish. The Edit Texture slide-out panel appears (second screenshot below). 
   
   
   
   
    
4. Click the blue Unpublished button. The button changes to green Published to indicate that the texture type is republished. 
   
   
   
   
    
5. Close the Edit Texture slide-out panel. 
6. Now that the texture type is republished, your next steps are to select the diet types to create the published diet type/texture type combinations. See Publishing an Unpublished Diet Type/Texture Type Combination below. 
   
   

Publishing a Fluid Type

To publish a fluid type, complete the following steps:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears. 
2. Click the Fluid Type tab.
3. Click the name of the fluid type you want to unpublish. The Update Fluid Type pop-up appears (second screenshot below). 
   
   
    
4. To publish the fluid type, select the Publish check box.
   
   
    
5. Click the Save button to apply your changes. 

Publishing an Unpublished Diet Type/Texture Type Combination

To publish an unpublished diet type/texture type combination: 

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears with the Diets and Textures tab automatically open.
2. Ensure the Diet Category field is is Standard.
   
   
3. To publish a diet type/texture type combination, select its check box. 
   
   

Sorting

Sorting How Diet and Texture Types Appear in System

You can sort the order in which the diet types, texture types, and fluid types appear in the system and reports. To do so, complete the following steps:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears with the Diets and Textures tab automatically open.
2. Ensure the Diet Category field is is Standard.
3. If sorting diet types, click and hold the = icon of a diet type to be sorted, and drag it up or down to the appropriate spot in the diet order rows.
4. If sorting texture types, click and hold the = icon of a texture type to be sorted, and drag it left or right to appropriate spot in the texture type columns.
5. Repeat the above steps until you have your desired order.

Sorting How Fluid Types Appear in System

You can sort the order in which the fluid types appear in the system. To do, complete the following steps:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears.
2. Select the he Fluid Type tab.
3. Hold the = icon of a fluid type to be sorted, and drag it up or down to the appropriate spot in the fluid type order.
4. Repeat the above steps until you have your desired order.

Hiding/Showing an Unpublished Diet, Texture of Fluid Type on Extension Grids

As noted, when a diet, texture, of fluid type is unpublished it will still be available on the substitute extension grids to allow you to extend the recipe with therapeutic substitute recipes. 

However, you can choose to hide an unpublished diet, texture or fluid type from extension grids or not. See the appropriate instructions below to do so:

Note: Hiding an unpublished diet, texture or fluid type from extension grids only impacts your account. If you are a parent account (i.e., system account or corporate account) with child accounts, the diet, texture or fluid type will not be hidden from extension grids in your child accounts. 

Hiding/Showing an Unpublished Diet Type on Extension Grids

You can configure an unpublished diet type type to either be hidden or shown on recipe extension grids and menu item extension grids via its Include in Extension Grid check box. To access this check box, complete the following steps:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears with the Diets and Textures tab automatically open.
2. Ensure the Diet Category field is is Standard.
3. Click the name of the unpublished diet type you want to hide. The slide-out panel for the diet type appears (screenshot below). 
4. Deselect the Include in Extension Grid to hide the unpublished diet type from extension grids. Or select the Include in Extension Grid to show the unpublished diet type on extension grids.
   
   
   
   Note: If attempting to hide the unpublish diet type, but it is currently assigned to active (non-archived) people, then a message indicates such and the Include in Extension grid check box is not available to deselect (screenshot below).
   
   
    
5. Click the Save button to apply your changes. 

Hiding/Showing an Unpublished Texture Type on Extension Grids

You can configure an unpublished texture type to either be hidden or shown on recipe extension grids and menu item extension grids via its Include in Extension Grid check box. To access this check box, complete the following steps:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears with the Diets and Textures tab automatically open.
2. Ensure the Diet Category field is is Standard.
3. Click the name of the unpublished texture type you want to hide from extension grids. The Update Texture Type slide-out panel appears (screenshot below). 
4. Deselect the Show in Extension Grids to hide the unpublished texture type from extension grids. Or select the Show in Extension Grids to show the unpublished texture type on extension grids. 
   
    
    
5. Click the Save button to apply your changes. 

Hiding/Showing an Unpublished Fluid Type on Fluid Substitution Grids

You can configure an unpublished fluid type to either be hidden or shown on fluid substitution grids via its Include in Fluid Sub Grid check box. To access this check box, complete the following steps:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears. 
2. Click the Fluid Type tab.
3. Click the name of the fluid type you want to hide from fluid substitution grids. The Update Fluid Type slide-out panel appears (screenshot below). 
4. Deselect the Show in Fluid Sub Grid to hide the unpublished fluid type from fluid substitution grids. Or select the Show in Fluid Sub Grid to show the unpublished fluid type on fluid substitution grids. 
   
   
    
5. Click the Save button to apply your changes. 

Not Displaying/Displaying on the Diet Order Settings Screen the Unpublished Diet, Texture, and Fluid Types that are also hidden from Extension Grids

Display Names and Definitions

Changing Display Name and Definition of a Diet Type

To view or change the display name and definition of a diet type, complete the following steps:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears with the Diets and Textures tab automatically open.
2. Ensure the Diet Category field is is Standard.
3. Click the name of the diet type you want to change. The diet type slide-out panel appears.
4. Change the display name as needed by editing the the Display Name field.
5. Change the diet definition as needed by editing the Definition field.
   
   
    
6. Click the Save button to apply your changes.
7. When you edit the Display Name or Definition, the field appears with a “revert to master” icon (), which indicates the field has been edited, and can be clicked to revert the field back to the original of the parent account.

To view or change the display name and definition of a texture type, complete the following steps:

1. From the left navigation sidebar, select Tools & Setup > Diet Orders. The Diet Order Setting screen appears with the Diets and Textures tab automatically open.

3. Click the name of the texture type you want to change. The Update Texture Type slide-out panel appears.
4. Change the display name as needed by editing the the Display Name field.

6. Click the Save button to apply your changes and close the slide-out panel.

FAQs

Is there a way to see all default diet types, texture types and fluid types in the system?

The default diet types, texture types and fluid types are specific to your system, and as such cannot be listed here. Refer to the Standards & References section, where diet manuals and articles specific to your system and associated user profile are accessible.
