Entering Containers in the POS for Tare Calculations

In a POS quick service location, there may be the use of containers that diners will use to hold food sold by weight. For example, salad, soups, pasta, etc.

The weight of these containers must be entered into the POS system so that it can do the tare calculation and the diner only pays for the weight of the food and not the container.

To enter a container in the POS system, complete the following steps:

  1. In Touch Admin, click POS Settings > Containers. The Tare Weight Containers screen appears.
  2. Click the Add POS Container button.
  3. Enter or select the following information:
    • POS Location - select the POS location from which the container will be available.
    • Name - enter a recognizable name for the container (e.g., 9” paper plate)
    • Weight - enter the weight of the container
    • Weight unit - enter the unit of weight (ounce, gram, pound, kilogram)
  4. Click Save to apply your changes.
    • You are returned to the main screen where the newly-listed container is listed.
