About Meal Courses
For a POS location that is a dining room, meal courses can be enabled. With meal courses, when a menu item is ordered it is automatically placed into its pre-assigned course on the POS order area of the screen: Course 1, Course 2 or Course 3, as per screenshot below.
Each course for a diner can be fired to production independently of the other courses. If so, each course is represented as a separate ticket for that diner on the KMS screen.
If the POS operator taps the Fire Table button on the Table Overview screen, then each course is represented as a separate ticket, with the items listed for each seat and no diner names in a ticket.
Enabling meal course functionality involves setting up the following in Touch Admin:
Enable Meal Courses for the POS Location
In the Service Configuration settings for the POS location, select the Enable meal course check box (and then ensure to click the Save Location button at the bottom of the screen to apply your changes).
Assigning Meal Course to Categories
It is the menu category of the menu item that determines the meal course assignment. To assign a meal course to a menu category, complete the following steps:
- Open the menu category to assign a meal course to.
- From the Default course drop-down, select the course (1, 2, 3). Note that 0 or blank means the item will not be assigned to a course when ordered. A scenario in which to use 0 for a category is for the beverage category, as beverages are usually not part of courses.
- Click the Update Category button to apply your changes.
