Gratuities for Selected Tender Types
In a POS revenue centre, gratuities can be supported for the following tender types:
- Credit card (for Stripe terminals only) - during the checkout process, the customer will enter the tip percentage or tip amount on the Stripe terminal. Note: Tips for credit card purchases are only supported on Stripe terminals,
- Bill to room - during the checkout process, the POS operator will enter the tip amount requested by the user.
- Declining balance meal plan - during the checkout process, the POS operator will enter the tip amount requested by the user.
- Cash - during the checkout process, the POS operator will enter the tip amount requested by the user.
Requesting Gratuities be Enabled for your POS Revenue Centre
To enable gratuities for a POS revenue centre and the desired tender types, please open a support chat and ask for a live agent. If you are MealSuite Support, gratuities can be enabled in the client's POS revenue centre via the Finance section; see Configuring a POS Revenue Centre (INTERNAL) > Gratuity Settings.
POS Reports that Capture Gratuities
The following POS reports capture gratuities:
- End of Day Report (via the POS Manager Module)
- Payment Transactions Report
- Bill to Room Transactions Report
- Meal Plan Transactions Report
- Meal Plan Spending Breakdown Report
- Payments Summary Reports > Payments by Diner and Non-Meal Plan Tender
- Daily Financials Reports > Payments (Non-Meal Plan) Summary
- Daily Financials Reports > Meal Plan Summary
Smart Tip Threshold for a Stripe Location
Each Stripe location can configured with a smart tip threshold, which is a dollar amount that the terminal uses to switch between dollar value tip suggestions versus percentage value tip suggestions. For example, assume the following:
- The smart tip threshold is $10.00.
- The "above threshold" tip suggestions are 15%, 18%, and 20%.
- The "below threshold" tip suggestions are $1, $2, and $3.
If the purchase is over $10.00, the terminal will display the "above threshold" tip suggestions of 15%, 18%, and 20%.
If the purchase is below $10.00, the terminal will display the "below threshold" tip suggestions of $1, $2, and $3.

MealSuite Support Task: Configuring a Smart Tip Threshold for a Stripe Location
If you are MealSuite Support, you can configure a smart tip threshold for a Stripe location as follows:
- In the Core account, select Settings from the left navigation sidebar. The Settings panel appears to the right.
- From the Settings panel, select Point of Sale Settings > Stripe Management. The Stripe Management screen appears.
- Click the Stripe Locations tab to display the list of existing Stripe locations.
- For the Stripe terminal to configure with a smart tip threshold, click its ellipsis in the Actions column and select Edit. The Edit screen appears for the Stripe terminal.
- Select the Enable Gratuity Prompts check box.
- In the Suggested percentages field, enter the percentage values to display for an above-threshold purchase. Separate each percentage value by a comma. For example, 10,15,20.
- In the Suggested fixed amounts ($) field, enter the dollar values to display for a below-threshold purchase. Separate each dollar value by a comma. For example 1,2,3.
- Click the Save Location.
