About Diet Types
The Diets screen allows you to view and manage the diet types in your account. Diet types can be assigned to resident/patient profiles and used in recipe extension grids, menu extension grids, menu reports and people reports.
Opening the Diets Screen
To open the Diets screen:
- In your Core account, select Settings from the left navigation sidebar. The Settings panel appears to the right.
- From the Settings panel, select Dietary Settings > Diets. The Diets screen appears, listing the available diet types in your account.
Unpublishing a Diet Type
When an account unpublishes a diet type, the following occurs:
- The unpublished diet type will not be available to be assigned to residents/patients.
- The unpublished diet type will still be available in recipe extension grids and menu item extension grids to allow you to extend the recipe with therapeutic substitute recipes.
If a parent account unpublishes a diet type, then that type will be unpublished in its child accounts, but can be republished by the child account if need be.
A diet type cannot be unpublished if it is currently assigned to a resident/patient.
Unpublishing a diet type involves removing all of its associated texture types. To do so, complete the following steps:
-
Open the Diets screen.
- Click the name of the diet type to be unpublished. The diet type-specific screen appears.
- Click Texture Publications on the right of the screen, or scroll down the screen to the Texture Publication section.
- Click the edit icon for the Texture Publication section (first screenshot below). The Edit: Texture Publication screen appears (second screenshot below).
- Clear all the check boxes for each texture type. Note: You can also use the Publish for all texture check box by clicking it the appropriate times to clear all the texture check boxes.
Note: If the diet type is currently assigned to a resident/patient in your account, then it cannot be unpublished. A message appears listing a diet type/texture type combination that is currently assigned, along with the number of people assigned that combination.*
If it is a parent account attempting to unpublish the diet type, and that diet type is assigned to resident/patients in one or more child accounts, then the diet type cannot be unpublished. A message appears listing a diet/type texture type combination that is currently assigned in child facilities, along with a list of child facilities and the number of people assigned the combination in each facility.*
- Click Save Changes to apply your changes.
*The message only lists one diet type/texture type combination that is assigned, but does not list all the combinations that are assigned.
Note: When a diet type is unpublished from all texture types, that diet type does not appear on the Diets and Textures grid.
Displaying Unpublished Diet Types on the Diets Screen
When a diet type is unpublished it is given a status of Unpublished. You can display unpublished diet types on the Diets screen using the filters. To do so, complete the following steps:

Open the Diets screen.
- Click the Filters button to display the Filters slide-out panel (screenshot below),
- Select the Show unpublished at your account check box.
Note: If an unpublished diet type is also set to be hidden from extension grids (see below for more information), then you will also need to select the Show hidden from extension grid check box to have these diet types display on the Diets screen.
- Click the See Results button to apply your changes. The Diets screen displays diet types with the Unpublished status (screenshot below).
Publishing a Diet Type
If a diet type has been unpublished from all texture types, then it can be republished. If a new diet type has been approved for your account, then it will be unpublished. Publishing a diet type involves selecting one or more texture types the diet type is to be published with (i.e., diet type/texture type combinations).
- To publish a diet type, select one or more texture type check boxes. Note: You can also use the Publish for all texture check box by clicking it the appropriate times to select all the texture type check boxes.
- Click Save Changes to apply your changes.
Sorting How Diet Types Appear in System
You can sort the order in which the diet types appear in the system and reports. To do so, complete the following steps:
-
Open the Diets screen.
-
Click and hold the drag handle of a diet type to be sorted, and drag it up or down to the appropriate spot in the list.
- Repeat the above steps until you have your desired order.
Note: The Regular diet type is positioned at the top of the list and cannot be sorted.
Hiding/Showing an Unpublished Diet Type on Extension Grids
As noted, when a diet type is unpublished it will still be available on the substitute extension grids to allow you to extend the recipe with therapeutic substitute recipes.
However, you can choose to hide an unpublished diet type from extension grids or not.
Note: Hiding an unpublished diet type from extension grids only impacts your account. If you are a parent account (i.e., system account or corporate account) with child accounts, the diet type will not be hidden from extension grids in your child accounts.
You can set an unpublished diet type type to either be hidden or shown on recipe extension grids and menu item extension grids via its Include in Extension Grid check box. To access this check box, complete the following steps:
-
Open the Diets screen.
- Ensure the unpublished diet types are displayed onscreen (as per steps above).
- For the unpublished diet type, click its name to open its diet type-specific screen.
- In the General Settings section at the top of the screen, click its edit icon to open the section for editing.
- To hide the unpublished diet type from extension grids, slide the Display in Extension Grids slider to the left. To display the unpublished diet type in extension grids, slide the Display in Extension Grids slider to the right.
- Click the Save Changes button to apply your changes.
Displaying Unpublished Diet Types that are also Hidden from Extension Grids
When an unpublished diet type is hidden from extension grids, then you can display these diet types on the Diets screen via the filters. To do so, complete the following steps:
-
Open the Diets screen.
- Click the Filters button to display the Filters slide-out panel (screenshot below),
- Select the Show unpublished at your account check box and select the Show hidden from extension grid check box.
- Click the See Results button to apply your changes. The Diets screen displays unpublished diet types that are also hidden from extension grids.

About the Liquid Diet Types
There are two default liquid diet types that can be assigned to a resident/patient:
-
Clear Liquid - designed for individuals needing easily digested foods that leave no undigested residue in the intestinal tract. Liquids on this diet can be colored as long as you are able to see through them. A clear liquid diet consists of clear liquids — such as water, juices, broth and plain gelatins. A clear liquid diet does not provide adequate calories and nutrients.
- Full Liquid - designed for individuals with difficulty chewing or swallowing and/or may be used for transitioning from clear liquids to solid foods post-surgery. Clear liquids plus milk-based beverages and small amounts of fiber are allowed on this Diet Type. A well-planned full liquid diet generally provides adequate calories, protein and fat, but may be inadequate in vitamins, minerals and fiber.
These liquid diet types are automatically available in the system to assign to a profile, and as such do not need to be activated/published.
Locating the Liquid Diet Types in the System
The liquid diet types can be found in the system via Diets screen:
-
Open the Diets screen.
-
The Clear Liquid and Full Liquid types are listed in the Diet Display Name column. Also note that the Category for these liquid diet types is Liquid.
Note: If you wanted to only show the liquid diet types onscreen, then use the filters (click the Filters button) to select the Liquid category, and not any other categories.
