FAQs
- I don't see the diet intervention to assign to a resident/patient?
- When I assign a diet intervention and click Save, I get the following message: "[Diet Intervention] is not valid for the assigned diet/texture combination; therefore cannot be assigned. Please assign a valid combination before saving profile."

- Is there a report that lists the diet interventions that residents/patients are assigned to?
Assigning a Diet Intervention to a Resident/Patient
A diet intervention is associated with a diet type and a texture type (see Creating a Diet Intervention for more information). If a published diet intervention matches the diet type and texture type assigned to a person, then that diet intervention is available to assign to that person. To do so:
- Open the person’s profile.
-
From the Standard Diet Intervention field in the Personal Information section of the person’s profile, select the intervention. More than one diet intervention can be selected.
- Click Save at the top right of the panel to apply your changes.
Warning Note when Manually Adding a Diet Intervention
If your EHR sends diet intervention messages via your Connect interface, the following warning note will appear beneath the Standard Diet Intervention field on a profile to inform you that any diet intervention changes you make will be overwritten the next time Connect receives a diet order message from the EHR:
Update diet intervention directly in your EHR to avoid overwriting the next time a Connect diet order message is received
About Allergens and Diet Interventions
If the diet intervention contains personal menu items, specific substitutes or fallback substitutes and those items conflict with an allergen that is assigned to the person, then a prompt appears stating such (after clicking Save).
By clicking the Keep Them Although They Will Not Be Served button, you can keep the items on the personal menu but shown as excluded (via Display Options). If in the future the allergen is unassigned from the resident/patient, their personal menu items and substitutes will be available again to be served.
If you do not want the keep the items on the personal menu, then remove them by clicking the Delete All Items with Allergen button.
Viewing Personal Menu of Person Assigned a Diet Intervention
When a diet intervention is assigned to a person, the person’s personal menu updates accordingly. An intervention is associated with one or more of the customization types listed below.
In addition, opening the Manage Customizations screen of a person’s personal menu displays customizations added via an intervention (in addition to those manually added to the person’s personal menu).
About Personal Items and Fallback Substitutes
- If the diet intervention consists of a personal item or a fallback substitute item, and the diet order of the person is different than regular diet type/regular texture type, then the items added to the personal menu are taken from the recipe extension grid of the personal item or fallback substitute item (assuming the item is extended).
For example, assume an intervention consists of the High Protein Muffin as a fallback substitute, and that the High Protein Muffin is extended with the Pureed High Protein Muffin for the regular diet type/pureed texture type. If the intervention is assigned to a person with a regular diet type/pureed as their diet order, then the Pureed High Protein Muffin is added to the personal menu as a fallback substitute and not the High Protein Muffin.
- If the personal item or fallback substitute item has not been extended, then the system assumes the personal item is not appropriate for the person’s assigned diet order, and as such will not add the personal item to the personal menu.
- If the diet type/texture type extension of a personal item or fallback substitute item of a diet intervention is “Do not serve”, and the person’s diet order matches that diet type/texture type, then the personal item or fallback substitute item is not added to the personal menu.
Changing a Diet Order for Person with an Assigned Diet Intervention
If a person’s diet order (i.e., diet type and texture type) is changed, and that new diet order is not valid for any of their assigned interventions (i.e., the diet type/texture type of the intervention does not match the diet type/texture of the person), a message appears stating that the intervention will be removed from the profile along with its personal menu customizations.
FAQs
I don't see the diet intervention to assign to a resident/patient?
- If the diet intervention is owned by your parent corporate account, it could be that they unpublished the diet intervention. If so, then the diet intervention will no longer be available to your account. You can confirm if a diet intervention is no longer available to your account by opening the Diet Interventions screen to see if the intervention is still listed (see Viewing Diet Interventions Available to Your Account).
You can ask to have the parent account republish the diet intervention. Alternatively, you can create the diet intervention for your account (see Creating a Diet Intervention).
- If the diet intervention is owned by your account, it is possible that it could have been unpublished by someone in your account. You can confirm if the diet intervention is unpublished via the Diet Interventions screen. An unpublished diet intervention states Unpublished in the Publish column, as per screenshot below.
To republish a diet intervention, see Publishing an Unpublished Diet Intervention.
When I assign a diet intervention and click Save, I get the following message: "[Diet Intervention] is not valid for the assigned diet/texture combination; therefore cannot be assigned. Please assign a valid combination before saving profile."
Because a diet intervention is associated with a diet type/texture type combination, then it can only be assigned to a resident/patient profile with the same diet type/texture type combination. Therefore the message appears to state that a conflict exists and you must either change the diet type/texture type of the profile to match the diet intervention, or you must select a different diet intervention that matches the diet type/texture type.
Can a diet intervention be assigned to a resident/patient with a liquid diet type, NPO, or tube feeding?
No. A diet intervention cannot be assigned to a resident/patient with a liquid diet type, NPO or tube feeding. A diet intervention can only be assigned to resident/patients with an assigned diet type and texture type.
Is there a report that lists the diet interventions that residents/patients are assigned to?
No, at this time there is no report that lists the diet interventions that residents/patients are assigned to. However, the following people reports allow the name of assigned diet interventions to be printed on a ticket/label/menu:
- Tray Card Ticket Report (People) - lists Dietary Needs (no Food)
- Tray Menu Tickets Report (People) - for Non-Select & Advance Ordering
- Person-Specific Select Menus Report (People) - for Table Select & Advance Ordering
- Snack Delivery Worksheet (People)
- Stickers (People) - for Personal Items, Snacks or Identification
