About Acknowledging Connect Messages
A message needs to be acknowledged by a designated user in your MealSuite account so that it proves it has been read (i.e., a read receipt). When a message is acknowledged, the system records the date and time of the acknowledgement, which can be viewed in the history of a person’s profile.
If a message is received by Connect with no issues, then the following occurs:
- On the Connect screen (People > Connect), the message appears with the Acknowledge button. To acknowledge a message from the Connect screen, see Acknowledging Connect Messages from the Connect Screen below.
- On the People Listing screen (People > People Listing), if a person is associated with a Connect message, then a green Connect alert label is displayed in the Alerts column for that person.
- For a non-PCC interface, to acknowledge a message from the People Listing screen, see Non-PCC Connect Interface: Acknowledging Connect Messages from the People Listing Screen below.
- For a PCC interface, to acknowledge a message from the People Listing screen, see Acknowledging PointClickCare (PCC) Updates from the People Listing Screen below.
What Type of Messages Require Acknowledging?
By default, the following message types require acknowledging:
- Admits
- Allergy
- Diet Order
- Discharge
- LOA - out
- LOA - in
- Transfer
- Demographic Updates
Note: All but the diet order messages can be set up to be automatically acknowledged. See Setting up Automatic Acknowledgement of Messages.
Acknowledging Connect Messages from the Connect Screen
To acknowledge a Connect message from the Connect screen, complete the following steps:
- Open the Connect screen (People > Connect), where messages waiting to be acknowledged are listed.
- For the message to be acknowledged, either click the Acknowledge button or click the person’s name link. A slide-out panel appears with the resident/patient profile. Depending if you are acknowledging for a non-PCC Connect interface or a PCC Connect interface, refer to the appropriate steps below:
Non-PointClickCare Interface
For a non-PCC Connect interface, at the top of the profile screen is one or more coloured alert banners, each indicating one or more messages of a specific type.
- To acknowledge all message types without viewing the details of each message type, click the Acknowledge All button.
or - To view the details of a message type and its individual Acknowledge button, click its coloured alert banner to expand it.
- Click the Acknowledge button to acknowledge the message.
Note: If there are multiple messages of the same type, then the banner states such (first screenshot below), and the See more details link opens the Connect Messages window with details of each message (second screenshot below) for you to acknowledge.
PointClickCare (PCC) Interface
For a PointClickCare (PCC) Connect interface, at the top of the profile screen is one or more PCC Update banners, each with one or more updates. A PCC Update banner represents one or more update types that were received for a sync event.
- To acknowledge all PCC update syncs without viewing the details of each sync, click the Acknowledge All PCC Updates button.
or - To view the details of a PCC update sync and its individual Acknowledge button, click into its PCC Update banner to expand it.
- Click the Acknowledge button in a PCC Update banner to acknowledge its updates.
Bulk Acknowledging from the Connect Screen
To perform a bulk acknowledgement of Connect messages on the Connect screen (People > Connect), complete the following steps:
- Select the check boxes of each profile with unacknowledged messages.
- Click the Bulk Acknowledge button (first screenshot below). A separate slide-out panel appears that allows you to acknowledge each profile sequentially (second screenshot below).
- In the slide-out panel, review and acknowledge the first profile. Upon acknowledging that profile, the slide-out panel automatically refreshes with the next profile for you to review and acknowledge. Repeat this process until all profiles are acknowledged.
Non-PCC Connect Interface: Acknowledging Connect Messages from the People Listing Screen
If your account is enabled with a non-PCC Connect interface to your EHR, then if a person is associated with a Connect message, then a green Connect alert label is displayed in the Alerts column for that person.
Hovering your cursor over the alert displays "New Connect Messages".
Acknowledging a Connect message from the People Listing screen is a three-step process:
- Open the person's profile by clicking their name. You will notice at the top of the profile screen is one or more coloured alert banners, each indicating one or more messages of a specific type (first screenshot below).
- Click a coloured alert banner to expand it and expose the message details and the Acknowledge button (second screenshot below).
- Click the Acknowledge button to acknowledge the message (second screenshot below).
If there are multiple messages of the same type, then the banner states such (first screenshot below), and the See more details link opens the Connect Messages window with details of each message (second screenshot below) for you to acknowledge.
Banner Colours and Icons for Each Message Type
Each message type has its own banner colour and icon:
The banner colour and icon for each message is as follows:
| Admit | |
| Allergy | |
| Diet Order | |
| Discharge | |
| LOA - out | |

Acknowledging Allergy Update Message that Consists of Removal of an Allergy
For accounts that utilize the HL7 message set, and from that the A60 Update Allergy message, when acknowledging an allergy update message that consists of the removal of an allergy, the system will present a confirmation message (screenshot below) that allows you to remove the allergy, keep the allergy, or be reminded later.
About Acknowledging Diet Order Update Message Mapped to a Diet Intervention
If the diet order update message involves a diet type, and that diet type is mapped to a diet intervention (rather than being mapped to a diet type), then when acknowledging such a message, the system informs you that the message involved mapping the diet type to a diet intervention, and as such the person's existing assigned diet type remains.
Acknowledging PointClickCare (PCC) Updates from the People Listing Screen
If your account is enabled with a Connect interface to PointClickCare (PCC) , then when a resident/patient profile in your account has been updated from PCC, a green Connect alert label is displayed in the Alerts column for that person.
Hovering your cursor over the alert displays "New Connect Messages".
Acknowledging a PCC update from the People Listing screen is accomplished as follows:
- Open the resident/patient profile by clicking the name. At the top of the profile screen is one or more PCC Update banners, each with one or more updates. A PCC Update banner represents one or more update types that were received for a sync event.
- To acknowledge all PCC update syncs without viewing the details of each sync, click the Acknowledge All PCC Updates button.
or - To view the details of a PCC update sync, click into its PCC Update banner to expand it.
- Click the Acknowledge button in a PCC Update banner to acknowledge its updates.
About Acknowledging Update to a Diet Order that is Mapped to a Diet Intervention
If a diet order update involves a diet type, and that diet type is mapped to a diet intervention (rather than being mapped to a diet type), then when acknowledging the update, the system informs you that the update involved mapping the diet type to a diet intervention, and as such the person's existing assigned diet type remains.
Personal Menu Customizations for a Diet Order Change
If a resident/patient is set up with personal menu customizations, and their diet order (either the diet type or texture type) is changed in the EHR, then when the resident/patient profile is opened in your account, the Copy Customizations window appears, giving you the opportunity to copy personal menu customizations from the former diet order to the new diet order. For more information, on working with this window, see the separate article What Happens When you Change Diet Order of Person with Personal Menu Customizations?
Acknowledging ADT Messages Without Opening a Person’s Profile
If you are manually acknowledging Connect messages, then by default the associated person's profile will open. For ADT messages, you can set up the system to not open a person's profile upon manually acknowledging a message.
For more information and instructions to do so, see the When acknowledging Admits, transfers and discharge messages setting (screenshot below) on the Connect Settings screen.
Setting up Automatic Acknowledgement of Messages
You can set up your account to automatically acknowledge certain messages. When a message is set to be automatically acknowledged it means you do not have to manually acknowledge the message. To set up automatic acknowledgement of messages, complete the following steps:
- Open the Connect screen (People > Connect).
- Click the Settings button. The Connect Settings screen appears as a slide-out panel.
- Scroll down to the Notifications section.

- Click OK to enable the setting.
- At the top right of the slide-out panel, click Save to apply your changes and close the slide-out panel.
