About Resolving Connect Messages
If a Connect message from an EHR contains data in the form of a person, room, allergy or diet order that is not mapped to a corresponding MealSuite entity (person, room, allergy, diet order), then the Connect interface cannot process the message. Therefore you are required to resolve the message by mapping the unmapped data. When there are messages that require resolving, the following occurs:
- When opening the Connect screen (People > Connect from the left navigation sidebar), a message appears to inform you of the number of Connect messages that require resolving. You can either click Go To Mapping to open the Mapping screen to map the data (see Resolving Mapping Issues on the Connect Mapping Screen below) or click Resolve Later to stay on the Connect screen where you can resolve individual messages (see Resolving Connect Messages from the Connect Screen below).
- On the People Listing screen (People > People Listing), a red Connect label is displayed in the Alerts column for an unresolved message for a resident/patient.
Hovering over the red Connect label displays "Unresolved Connect Messages".
Messages that are unresolved and require action are listed first on the screen. To take action on a Connect message from the People Listing screen, see Resolving Connect Messages from the People Listing Screen below.
Resolving Mapping Issues on the Connect Mapping Screen
To open the Connect mapping screen to resolve mapping issues, complete the following steps:
- From the left navigation sidebar, select People > Connect. A message appears to inform you of the number of Connect messages that require resolving.
- Click the Go To Mapping button (first screenshot below). The Mapping screen appears (second screenshot below).
- Click the tab at the top of the panel for the entity mapping relationships you want to view: People, Rooms, Allergies, Diet Orders. The mapping table appropriate to the entity appears, listing the EHR entity on the left and the mapped entity in your account on the right.
Any unmapped entity appears at the top of the table, with the MealSuite Data highlighted red with the Unknown text. The example below shows an unmapped room.

Resolving an Unmapped EHR Resident/Patient on the Mapping Screen
For an unmapped EHR resident/patient on the Mapping screen, the following options are available from the Person Name drop-down:
- Create New person - you can create a new resident/patient profile in your account using the EHR data by selecting Create New Person from the drop-down, and then clicking the Save button at the top right of the screen.
-
Ignore Person - you can have the system ignore the message for the resident/patient and all future messages for that resident/patient by selecting the Ignore Person option. Upon selecting this option, the following confirmation message appears:
Resolving an Unmapped EHR Room on the Mapping Screen
For an unmapped EHR room on the Mapping screen, the following options are available from the Main Building | Area | Room | Bed drop-down:
- Create New Room - you can create a new room in your account by selecting using the EHR data by selecting Create New Room, and then clicking the Save button at the top right of the screen. The new room is automatically entered into your facility builder hierarchy and automatically assigned to the resident/patient profile.
-
Ignore Room - If the EHR room is a room that you do not serve food to (such as an emergency room or outpatient room), then you can select Ignore Room from the MealSuite Room drop-down, which will apply the Ignored Room status to the person's profile.
When a person has the Ignored Room status, they will not be included in people reports and production reports, and as such are not served during meal periods and snack times.
When selecting the Ignore Room option, the following message appears:
Note the following:
- If a transfer or admit message is received for a person with the Ignored Room status, then the person's status is changed to Active and their room will be updated to the new room.
- Diet order, allergy, and demographic messages for a person with the Ignored Room status will continue to be processed.
- If a person is currently active in the system, and a transfer patient message is received for that person containing a room that is ignored in your account, then the person will be put into the Ignored Room status and their room will be updated to the ignored room.
- To see how a resident/patient profile appears when it is ignored in your account, see Viewing Profile with an Ignored Room.
The Auto-Map Rooms Option
On the Rooms tab of the Connect Mapping screen, the Auto-map rooms option is available (screenshot below):
- With this option selected, the system will attempt to automatically map an EHR room to an existing room room in your account by looking first at the residence area name and then deducing the room and bed by looking at other existing mapping selections in that residence areas.
- With this option not selected, no auto-mapping is attempted, and you will be required to manually map each room.
Note: The Auto-map rooms option does not create rooms in your account.
Resolving an Unmapped EHR Allergy on the Mapping Screen
For an unmapped EHR allergy on the Mapping screen, the following options are available from the Allergen Group Name drop-down:
-
Create New Allergy - you can create a new allergen group in your account by selecting Create New Allergy from the drop-down, and then clicking the Save button at the top right of the screen. You will also be required to open the allergen group and add the food items to it, as indicated by a message that appears (below) when clicking Save; to add food items to an allergen group. See Adding Food Items to an Allergen Group.
- Map the EHR allergy to an existing allergen group in your account - from the drop-down, select an existing allergen group in your account to map the EHR allergy to. Note that more than one allergen group can be selected if considered appropriate.
-
Ignore Allergy - you can ignore the EHR allergy by selecting Ignore Allergy from the drop-down. When the EHR allergy is set to ignore, it is not mapped to an allergen group in your account and any subsequent messages with that EHR allergen will be ignored by the Connect interface.
Resolving an Unmapped EHR Intolerance on the Mapping Screen
For an unmapped EHR intolerance on the Mapping screen, the following options are available from the Allergen Group Name drop-down:
-
Create New Intolerance - you can create a new preference group in your account by selecting Create New Intolerance from the drop-down, and then clicking the Save button at the top right of the screen. You will also be required to open the preference group and add the food items to it, as indicated by a message that appears (below) when clicking Save; to do so see Preference Group: Adding Ingredients, Prepared Foods, Recipes.
- Map EHR Intolerance to an existing preference group in your account - from the drop-down, select an existing preference group in your account to map the EHR intolerance to. Note that more than one preference group can be selected if considered appropriate. Once selected, the system will then automatically mark that preference group(s) as DNS in the personal menu for the resident/patient profile.
-
Ignore Intolerance - you can ignore the EHR intolerance by selecting Ignore Intolerance. When the EHR intolerance is set to ignore, it is not mapped to a preference group in your account and any subsequent messages with that EHR intolerance will be ignored by the Connect interface.
