What is an Invalid Diet Order?
An invalid diet order is one in which the components of the diet order (diet, texture, fluid) are not valid for the associated person's profile for one of the reasons listed below.
An invalid diet order is typically the result of an EHR message received through your Connect interface when the components in the message conflict with the components in the resident/patient profile.
For the safety of your residents, no personal menu will be calculated when a diet order is invalid, and you are alerted of the invalid diet order for you to take the necessary steps to resolve it accordingly.
In addition, when a profile has an invalid diet order, the profile is excluded from the diet order census and is excluded from the following reports:
- Tray Menu Ticket (People) Report
- Person-Specific Select Menus Report (People)
- Food, Snacks & Identifier Stickers (People)
- Production Reports
Error Messages and Solutions for an Invalid Diet Order
Error message: Diet order is invalid due to one or more components being unknown
Reason: One or more components in the diet order (diet type, texture type, fluid type) is unknown.
Solution: Change the diet order for the resident/patient as needed to make the diet order valid; see Assigning Diet Order (Diet Type, Texture Type, Fluid Type) to Person or Assigning Fluid Type to Resident/Patient.
Error message: Diet order is invalid due to conflicting NPO order
Reason: One but not all components is NPO (i.e., NPO is all or nothing, except if diet type = tube feeding).
Solution: Change the diet order to NPO for the resident/patient; see Assigning an NPO Diet.
Error message: Diet/Texture combination {diet type/texture type] is unpublished; therefore cannot be assigned. Please assign a valid combination before saving profile.
Reason: Diet type/texture type combination is not published in the current account.
Solution: Publish the diet type/texture type combination. See Publishing an Unpublished Diet Type/Texture Type Combination. Note that publishing a diet type/texture type combination is different than publishing a diet type itself or a texture type itself.
Error message: Diet order is invalid as diet/texture combination is not published.
Reason: Diet/texture combination is not published in the current account.
Solution: Publish the diet type/texture type combination in your account; see Publishing an Unpublished Diet Type/Texture Type Combination. Note that publishing a diet type/texture type combination is different than publishing a diet type itself or a texture type itself. If you do not want to publish the diet type/texture type combination in your account, then instead assign a valid diet order to the resident/patient; see Assigning Diet Order (Diet Type, Texture Type, Fluid Type) to Person.
Error message: {Diet, Texture or Fluid} is not published
Reason: One or more components (diet type, texture type, fluid type) is not published in the account.
Solution: Publish the unpublished diet type, texture type or fluid type:
- If a diet type is unpublished, see Publishing a Diet Type.
- If a texture type is unpublished, see Publishing a Texture Type.
- If a fluid type is unpublished, see Publishing a Fluid Type.
Error message: Texture should be “liquid” when the assigned diet is a liquid one
Reason: Diet type is liquid and texture type is not liquid.
Solution: Assign the texture type as a liquid. See Manually Assigning a Texture Type.
Error message: Texture should not be “liquid” when the assigned diet is not a liquid one
Reason: Texture type is liquid but diet type is not liquid.
Solution: Either assign the diet type as a liquid (if resident/patient is supposed to be on a liquid diet), or assign the correct texture type (if resident/patient is not supposed to be on a liquid diet). Either way, see Manually Assigning a Texture Type.
Error message: Diet intervention is not valid for assigned diet/texture
Reason: Diet intervention is not valid for assigned diet type/texture type.
Solution: Assign the diet type/texture combination for the diet intervention; see Modifying a Diet Intervention.
